Renewables set a new record in Portugal

Renewable energy production reached a new historical high in Portugal with 10,845 MW, at a time when the Portuguese electrical system was exporting around 2,890 MW.

According to Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), the previous record was on March 8, 2024, with a production of 10,434 MW.

As of January 27, national electricity consumption was supplied with 72% renewable energy, in line with the levels recorded in 2024 (around 71%).

In the first 27 days of this year, electricity consumption was supplied 34% by wind energy, 28% by hydropower, 5% by solar energy, and 5% by biomass. Natural gas production represented 14% of consumption, and imports also accounted for 14%.

These records confirm that Portugal has maintained a sustainable trajectory in the progressive incorporation of endogenous renewable sources.
