TotalEnergies and European Energy explore opportunities in renewable energy in Denmark
TotalEnergies and European Energy have signed a Joint Declaration to seek opportunities in offshore wind energy in Denmark. In addition to focusing on offshore wind, the companies will collaborate on onshore renewable energy projects and low-carbon molecule initiatives.
The signing took place during the State Visit to France, in the presence of His Majesty King Frederik of Denmark and His Excellency the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron.
This latest agreement builds on an already well-established partnership between TotalEnergies and European Energy. The collaboration has seen the successful development of two offshore wind projects—Lillebælt Syd and Jammerland Bugt—which received establishment permits from the Danish Energy Agency in December 2024. Following the granting of these permits, TotalEnergies acquired the majority stake in both projects. Once operational, the two offshore parks are expected to provide a combined capacity of over 405 MW, supplying renewable electricity to more than 400,000 Danish households each year.
Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy, highlighted the strong relationship between the two companies, stating: "This declaration reflects the strong mutual trust we have built with TotalEnergies through our joint work in Danish offshore wind. We are excited about the possibility of expanding our collaboration and continuing to support the green transition in Denmark."
Martin Rune Pedersen, Danish Country Chair for TotalEnergies, echoed this sentiment:
"Denmark has long been a pioneer in offshore wind, and we are pleased to continue our collaboration with European Energy on potential future renewable projects. TotalEnergies' technological capabilities and experience with large energy infrastructure projects align well with European Energy's innovative business model and strong local engagement approach. This declaration is a clear testimony to our shared ambition to drive the energy transition in Denmark."
The signing of this agreement marks another milestone in Denmark’s ongoing commitment to renewable energy and the green transition, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
