Germany's latest rooftop solar auction draws more bids but falls short of full subscription
Germany's latest auction for rooftop solar installations and solar systems on noise barriers remained undersubscribed despite attracting significantly more bids than the previous round, according to the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).
For the 1 June 2026 tender, the Bundesnetzagentur offered 296 MW of capacity and received 125 bids totalling 238 MW. While this represents a substantial increase from the 177 MW submitted in the February 2026 auction, the tender again failed to reach the offered volume.
The regulator excluded 17 bids from the award process. As a result, 108 projects, representing a combined 209 MW, were awarded contracts.
The awarded prices ranged from €0.084/kWh to €0.10/kWh, with a capacity-weighted average of €0.0972/kWh, up from €0.0956/kWh in the previous auction and just below the maximum permitted bid price.
North Rhine-Westphalia secured the largest share of awarded capacity, with 49 MW across 21 projects. It was followed by Lower Saxony with 36 MW (19 projects), Baden-Württemberg with 22 MW (13 projects), Bavaria with 21 MW (11 projects) and Hesse with 20 MW (10 projects).
According to the Bundesnetzagentur, the next auction for rooftop solar installations and solar systems on noise barriers is scheduled for 1 October 2026.
