JA SOLAR, one of the world's leading photovoltaic manufacturing companies, will compete in the inaugural S.O.S. – Sails of Sustainability Regatta in Lelystad, the Netherlands, a unique event that combines the thrill of sailing with a strong call for climate action.

For this first edition, JA SOLAR will be represented by Robert-Jan de Laat, Sales Manager Benelux, who also supported the organization of the regatta and will crew a boat during the competition. 

“Being part of the first Sails of Sustainability Regatta mattered to us because it brings people together around a shared goal. Just like in solar, sailing is about teamwork, precision, and strategy,” said de Laat. “Joining the very first edition also shows our commitment to support new initiatives that drive the energy transition.” 

The Sails of Sustainability Regatta brings together companies and organizations to highlight the urgency of sustainability while raising funds for the Princess Máxima Center Foundation, supporting children with cancer.

For JA Solar, the event is more than symbolic. “It reflects how we see our role in the region: not only supplying solar modules but also raising awareness and promoting real action on sustainability. By joining the regatta, we highlight that renewable energy is part of a bigger movement, and that progress comes from working together,” de Laat added.

A Day of inspiration and action

• Morning: Coffee and pastries, followed by a keynote from adventurer Mark Slats, Golden Globe Race sailor and record-holding ocean rower, on perseverance and leadership.
• Afternoon: “Sailing in 10 minutes” training, followed by practice on the water and the official regatta starting at 15:00.
• Evening: Networking, drinks, and dinner to close the day.

The event will take place at Team Heiner, Flevo Marina, IJsselmeerdijk 15, Lelystad, a venue renowned for its fleet of competition yachts and sailing facilities.
