Gonvarri Solar Steel, a global company specialized in the design and supply of solar trackers and fixed structures for photovoltaic projects, has secured a new agreement to supply solar trackers for a 389MWp solar photovoltaic project in northern Chile. Located in the Atacama Desert, within the Antofagasta region, the project will be equipped with the company's latest generation TracSmarT+1P solar trackers.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin this year and continue through the first half of 2027. Once completed, the project will add to Solar Steel's growing footprint in Chile, a market where the company has maintained a strong presence for more than a decade through local operations, technical support and maintenance services.

The award brings Solar Steel's cumulative supplied capacity in Chile close to the 3GW mark. Over the past three years, the company has maintained a high market share, consolidating its position among the country's leading tracker suppliers.

The project also reflects a broader shift taking place across Latin America's utility-scale solar sector. As developers increasingly incorporate energy storage into new assets, compatibility between photovoltaic infrastructure and battery systems has become a key consideration during project design and execution.

In that context, the new facility will combine solar generation with energy storage, a model that is rapidly becoming standard across several Latin American markets. The development follows Solar Steel's recent announcement that its tracker portfolio has been independently certified for hybrid solar-plus-storage configurations, both in AC- and DC-coupled architectures.

The trend is not limited to Latin America. Across Europe, solar-plus-storage projects are moving from isolated opportunities to a growing share of the utility-scale pipeline, requiring technologies capable of adapting to different plant layouts and operational strategies without compromising performance or reliability.

Chile remains one of the most dynamic solar markets in the region, driven by its exceptional solar resource, growing storage deployment and ongoing expansion of large-scale renewable generation.
