TotalEnergies to supply 1 GW of solar power to Google’s data centres in Texas
TotalEnergies has signed two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Google to deliver 1 GW of solar capacity in Texas, equivalent to 28 TWh of renewable electricity over 15 years, to supply the technology giant’s data centers in the state.
The electricity will be generated from two solar projects currently under development by TotalEnergies: Wichita (805 MWp) and Mustang Creek (195 MWp). Construction at both sites is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
Supporting AI-driven power demand
The agreements aim to provide reliable, large-scale renewable energy to support the rapid expansion of data centers, particularly those driven by artificial intelligence workloads. The new PPAs complement 1.2 GW of gross PPAs recently secured by Clearway, a California-based renewable energy company 50% owned by TotalEnergies, to supply Google’s data centers across the ERCOT (Texas), PJM (Northeast), and SPP (Central) electricity markets.
Together, these contracts are designed to bring significant new generation capacity to regional grids, strengthening power supply while supporting corporate decarbonization goals.
Local economic impact
Beyond energy generation, the Wichita and Mustang Creek projects are expected to generate several hundred jobs during construction and provide substantial tax revenues to local authorities, helping to fund public services throughout the lifetime of the projects.
“This represents the largest renewable PPA volume ever signed by TotalEnergies in the United States,” said Marc-Antoine Pignon, Vice President Renewables U.S. at TotalEnergies. “These agreements highlight our strategy to deliver tailored renewable energy solutions that support the decarbonization objectives of digital players, particularly data centers. They also address challenges related to land availability and power supply by enabling large-scale colocation opportunities.”
From Google’s perspective, the deal supports the company’s efforts to ensure reliable and affordable energy as it continues to expand its infrastructure footprint. “Our agreement with TotalEnergies adds necessary new generation to the local system, boosting the amount of affordable and reliable power supply available to serve the entire region,” said Will Conkling, Director of Clean Energy and Power at Google.
Growing U.S. renewable footprint
TotalEnergies currently operates a gross capacity portfolio of 10 GW of onshore solar, wind and battery storage assets in the United States, including 400 MW in the PJM market in the Northeast and 5 GW in the ERCOT market in Texas, reinforcing its position as a major player in the country’s clean energy transition.
