Interviewing to Julian Scheer, Principal Consultant at RatedPower and Rocío Otero, Account Executive at EnverusRatedPower

Automation and AI reshape solar and BESS project development, according to Enverus RatedPower

At Intersolar Europe 2026, part of The smarter E Europe held in Munich from June 23 to 25, EnverusRatedPower showcased its latest innovations in photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) design software, reinforcing its position as an all-in-one cloud-based platform for renewable project optimization. The company exhibited at booth A4.330, where it combined product demonstrations, client meetings and networking activities throughout the three-day event.

RatedPower’s software is used by 5800 solar professionals in more than 160 countries, enabling automation and optimization of PV and BESS project design, reducing engineering time by up to 90% and increasing profitability by up to 20%, according to the company.

Increasing complexity in early-stage project development

One of the central themes discussed during the event was the growing complexity of early-stage renewable project development. As explained by Julian Scheer, Principal Consultant at RatedPower, “Everything is more complex right now and developers are facing a lot of complexity in their early stage of the development phase. Projects are not built in very flat terrain anymore. They are built in very difficult terrains without direct grid access.”

He added that developers must now account for multiple variables from the beginning of a project, noting that “they have to analyze from the beginning the topography, the environmental constraints, the grid access and also the financial viability. So it’s way more difficult for them to have everything from the beginning.” Scheer also highlighted the impact of tighter timelines driven by grid connection delays, explaining that “timelines are getting shorter because since they have to wait a lot to get the grid access, when they get it, they need to be fast and have everything from the beginning.”

New features for solar and storage design

To address these challenges, RatedPower presented several updates to its platform, including Advanced Earthwork calculations aimed at improving early-stage cost accuracy in PV plant design. Scheer noted that “we always did earthwork calculations because it’s very important when space becomes more limited, but we always did it in a very generic way,” adding that demand for greater precision came from multiple markets: “this was demanded from across the globe from the US, from Europe, just because space becomes competitive. We need to analyze how much earthwork is needed and if this makes a project viable or not.”

Another key development is PRISM Germany: Power and Consumption data, which integrates generation, consumption and storage data from the German MaStR registry, improving site prospecting and enabling new workflows for storage development.

BESS optimization and market flexibility

In the BESS segment, RatedPower is expanding its optimization capabilities to reflect growing market complexity. Scheer explained that “our customers demand many different things. Two major topics are coming. It’s the layout part. Users want to make sure they can get their layout as they want it. And the other part is trading — they want to simulate all the revenue markets we have out there.” He also highlighted the need for flexibility across markets, stating that “every country does it differently. So RatedPower tries to go in both directions: more flexibility on the layout side, but also introducing more revenue markets like ancillary services.”

Artificial intelligence in engineering workflows

Artificial intelligence is also becoming a central part of RatedPower’s roadmap, focused on reducing manual work and accelerating design workflows. Scheer described how “we were always an automated software. That’s the great part. But now we are introducing more and more AI,” adding that the company is developing an AI agent called Power Analyst, which “you can simply tell it what to do and it will create the ideal PV plant or battery plan for you.”

Industry perspective: speed without losing quality

From the company’s perspective, the industry is moving at increasing speed but without losing focus on quality. As Rocío Otero, Account Executive at EnverusRatedPower, summarized, “the industry is moving faster and we need to be even faster. But we don’t need to compromise quality or profitability. Moving fast is good, but everything needs to be well done.” She also emphasized that product development is shaped by customer feedback and market needs.

With its latest innovations and focus on automation and AI, EnverusRatedPower reinforces its positioning as a key platform for accelerating the design and optimization of renewable energy projects worldwide.
