Greenvolt to install 45,000 solar panels at Carrefour parking facilities in France

Greenvolt Group, through its subsidiary Greenvolt Next, has signed an agreement with Carrefour Property to develop solar photovoltaic installations across parking areas at up to 120 retail locations in France, with a combined estimated capacity of 25 MWp.

The project involves the installation of approximately 45,000 solar panels and forms part of Carrefour's strategy to increase renewable electricity consumption across its commercial properties.

The agreement follows a national tender launched by Carrefour Property to select a partner responsible for developing, financing, constructing, operating and maintaining the solar carport installations.

The systems will be deployed primarily at retail locations in central France, with designs adapted to the technical and operational requirements of each site.

A 25 MWp solar project to expand renewable self-consumption

Greenvolt Next will oversee the development of the photovoltaic installations under an integrated model covering initial technical assessments, financing, construction and subsequent operation.

The company will adapt each installation to the specific conditions of the retail sites, considering parking layouts, underground infrastructure, grid connection requirements and permitting procedures.

Construction activities will also need to remain compatible with normal store operations and customer access.

The objective is to generate renewable electricity for local consumption at Carrefour's retail facilities, reducing dependence on external electricity supplies and supporting the decarbonization of its property portfolio.

Although Greenvolt has not disclosed an annual electricity generation estimate in MWh, the company expects the installations to cover a significant share of electricity consumption at the participating stores.

Greenvolt to finance, operate and maintain the installations

Under the agreement, Greenvolt Next will assume responsibility for financing, technical studies, project development, construction, operation and maintenance of the photovoltaic systems.

The arrangement will allow Carrefour to integrate renewable electricity generation into its retail properties without directly managing every technical and operational stage of the projects.

For Greenvolt, the agreement represents an expansion of its distributed generation business serving commercial and industrial customers.

João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, highlighted the company's experience developing similar projects for major European retail operators.

Meanwhile, Evan Linker, Carrefour's Global Energy Director, emphasized that the partnership would accelerate the integration of photovoltaic generation across the group's French property portfolio while helping improve long-term energy cost predictability.

Carrefour advances toward its 2030 renewable electricity target

The solar carport deployment supports Carrefour Group's ambition to achieve 100% renewable electricity consumption globally by the end of 2030.

Installing photovoltaic structures over parking areas will allow the retailer to use existing commercial spaces for electricity generation without requiring additional land exclusively dedicated to solar development.

These installations also combine renewable power generation with the continued use of parking facilities.

For Greenvolt Next, the agreement strengthens its presence in France's distributed generation market and expands its portfolio of photovoltaic solutions for large electricity consumers.

The 25 MWp capacity and up to 120 retail locations represent the planned scope of the agreement, rather than installations already built or operational. Greenvolt has not disclosed a detailed construction schedule or a definitive commissioning date for the full portfolio.
