1. Europe’s offshore wind goals at risk without major port and shipbuilding investment

Europe is racing toward energy security and decarbonization, with offshore wind positioned as a strategic cornerstone. The objective is clear: to increase offshore wind capacity from 36.6 GW today to 84 GW by 2030. However, this ambition cannot be met without reinforcing the maritime supply chain, particularly in vessel manufacturing and port infrastructure, according WindEurope.

Currently, Europe is capable of installing and maintaining up to 10 GW of offshore wind capacity per year, which represents the minimum required to meet the 2030 targets. But beyond that milestone, annual installations must rise to at least 15 GW to sustain the trajectory of clean energy transition.

2. España destina 148,5 millones a proyectos pioneros de renovables con almacenamiento

El Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico ha asignado 148,5 millones de euros del Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia (PRTR) a un total de 199 proyectos de implantación de renovables innovadoras como la agrivoltaica, fotovoltaica flotante, o integrada en infraestructuras, que incorporan almacenamiento en todos los casos.

La resolución definitiva del programa RENOINN también incluye iniciativas de autoconsumo colectivo que incorporan a consumidores vulnerables, así como proyectos de climatización mediante bomba de calor renovable.

Los proyectos se distribuyen por toda España, con mayor presencia en Cataluña (79), Comunitat Valenciana (30), Castilla y León (17) y Andalucía (13). En total, suman 299,6 MW de generación —mayoritariamente fotovoltaica— y 351,6 MWh de capacidad de almacenamiento.

3. Colombia impulsa comunidades energéticas solares en Cali con nuevo acuerdo institucional

Según un comunicado oficial del Ministerio de Minas y Energía de Colombia, el Gobierno nacional avanza en la Transición Energética Justa mediante la firma de un memorando de entendimiento en Cali para impulsar comunidades energéticas basadas en energía solar enfocadas en la economía del cuidado, las artes y la cultura.

El acuerdo, firmado entre el Ministerio, EMCALI E.S.P. y el sindicato SINTRAEMCALI, busca promover proyectos sostenibles de energía limpia en comunidades priorizadas del Valle del Cauca y Cauca. La iniciativa apunta a desarrollar Comunidades Energéticas del Cuidado y de las Artes, con énfasis en justicia social, sostenibilidad y democratización del acceso a la energía.

4. Battery storage could cut U.S. energy bills by $25 billion

Deploying 10 GW of battery storage—enough to power around 8 million homes during peak demand—in the U.S. Midwest and Central grid (MISO) could deliver approximately $25 billion in energy cost savings for American consumers over the next 20 years.

The report projects that a 500% increase in battery storage capacity by 2035 is essential to sustain grid reliability in the MISO region, which serves about 45 million customers. This jump in storage is needed to keep pace with rising electricity demand and mitigate growing strain on the power infrastructure.

5. UK hosts new alliance to boost green hydrogen projects

Four Zeros Energy and Norway-based Vergia have joined forces to develop and finance a portfolio of green hydrogen and derivative projects across the UK. Their partnership’s first initiative is the St Austell Green Hydrogen project in Cornwall, which was shortlisted in April 2025 as part of the UK Government’s second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2).

Phase One of the project will feature a 20 MW electrolyser designed to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, replacing natural gas used in local mining and mineral extraction operations around St Austell.
